Mr Stretton (Classics Teacher)

Year 8 have been busy this year, delving into the intricacies of Latin language. In addition to their studies in class, a group of Year 8s and some enthusiastic Year 12 students have been helping our new anatine mascot (whom the students named Quacilius) in his quest to find out more about Latin and Roman culture.

This new club is open to all Year 8s on Wednesday lunchtimes and gives students a chance to explore the Roman world and its language beyond our lessons. This week the students researched what life was like in the poorer districts of ancient Rome, recording their own anachronistic radio interview with a resident there. They then finished off the session with a coins and robbers game where the robbers can only successfully threaten their targets if they answer a vocabulary question first.

It is joy to see our Year 12 students share their knowledge and enthusiasm with their younger counterparts whilst all the club members practise skills such as intellectual playfulness, connection finding and strategy planning - all while partaking of chocolatey offerings from the Roman god of war.
