The whole of Year 7 produced their very own interpretation of parts of A Midsummer Night’s Dream for our Shakespeare morning on Tuesday. Each class was given responsibility for a section of the play, and had freedom to interpret it and adapt it. The morning featured musical and dance interludes, competition prizes, mask making, Elizabethan dancing, and a Tudor-style falconry display to finish.

Farzeen Sarker commented: “I had a fantastic time watching the Shakespeare play; the performances were engaging and brought the characters to life in a way that made the story even more enjoyable!” Roza Komenda said: “I most enjoyed all of the other classes performing and it made me smile!” Bella Poderoso added: “The highlight of my day was watching different classes performing a classic play with their own twists. It was so enjoyable and funny seeing how different every scene was and how everyone adapted it.”

The morning was designed to give students the opportunity to experience a Shakespeare play for themselves, in a dynamic and engaging way. Although the play had been cut significantly, the Shakespeare text was firmly present, with wonderful lines, and a strong sense of comedy.

Much hard work had gone into rehearsing the scenes and learning lines. Lottie Tillison: enjoyed the build-up: “Shakespeare morning was so fun. I enjoyed it so much, especially all the preparation leading up to it, with the rehearsals and learning about all the scenes.”
