We are delighted to share that talented swimmer, Megan Barnicoat (Year 9), has been selected for a prestigious Under 18 Top Up Award as part of the 2025 intake of the GLL Sports Foundation Awards.
Megan was chosen from athletes across Bedford Borough in recognition of her continued national success, including maintaining a top 8 national ranking.
This is Megan’s second year receiving the award, which provides financial support, access to training facilities, physiotherapy, and more. The programme plays an important role in supporting young athletes as they balance sporting ambition with academic commitments.
Megan trains with the City of Peterborough Swimming Club and is now in her third consecutive season qualifying for the Swim England National Championships. She recently won the 200m Butterfly at the East Regional Championships and broke the Cambridgeshire county record in the 1500m Freestyle.
Training five days a week, often starting at 4am during the school week, Megan manages a demanding schedule of pool and gym work alongside her studies. Access to GLL facilities, combined with support from her club coach and Bedford Girls’ School through the Athlete Support Programme, allows Megan to maintain a healthy balance between her sport and academics.
