By Mrs Smith (PE Teacher)

Once again, our Year 7 and 8 Track and Field Athletics squad qualified for the Regional B Finals in Chelmsford, Essex, on Thursday 12th June.

The track and field cup is an unusual athletics competition where the team of 12 athletes must compete in two events each, one track and one field, or the relay. The scoring is not done on event placement, but points gained from their individual performances. The aim where possible is to get about 28 points total, from their two events combined, per athlete.

We were 5th at the halfway point after finishing all field events. The team were fabulous and worked together with a real sense of support and encouragement. It was very hot at points and very windy affecting all the events. Nat Woollard kindly stepped in to cover an absence and did us proud in the 300m and Long jump.

The following individuals got above expected results for their events: Eva Jackson (High jump), Regan Rowley-Smith (Shot & PB in 800m), Lottie Ayers (Javelin & 1500m), Merrin Harris (100m), Lottie Tillison (100m) and the relay team of Pippa, Merrin, Eva and Lottie T.

Anna Trueman started the day with a 30m31 personal best in the hammer (24 points), Pippa Blakemore ran the 1500m in 5m30.7 (24 points) and Emily Elphick threw 33m80 in the javelin (34 points) and ran the 75m hurdles in 13.4 (22 points).

Overall Regional B Final results:

  1. Woodbridge School = 373
  2. St John Payne Catholic School = 353
  3. BGS = 339

The Years 7 and 8 BGS Track & Field Cup 2025 Finals team were Merrin Harris, Lottie Tillison, Krystal Sotannde, Bella Olds, Izzy Macey-white, Regan Rowley-Smith, Nat Woollard, Anna Trueman, Pippa Blakemore, Lottie Ayers, Emily Elphick and Eva Jackson. What a day!

This was the final event of our Year 7/8 athletics season. We couldn’t be prouder of all the hard work our athletes have put in this term. Thank you for a fabulous term of athletics.
