Bronze Training Begins

Senior School Duke of Edinburgh (DofE)

By Miss Sadler (Science Teacher and DofE Bronze Coordinator)

On Friday 6th June, at lunchtime, our Bronze cohort began their training expedition with a walk from school to Cople. Upon arrival, students pitched their tents and later prepared and cooked their evening meals. It was impressive to see how efficiently they set up camp, working together to overcome challenges posed by the wind and rain. We even had to pitch a tent in the dark due to an issue when one group went to bed.

Students also spent time planning their assessed expedition routes. The weather was mixed throughout the experience, with spells of sunshine, rain, and wind. On Saturday morning, groups were up early and set off from 08:00. Staff were stationed along the route, offering guidance and demonstrating key Duke of Edinburgh skills.

During the expedition, students successfully applied what they had learned during their training day including campcraft, navigation, and teamwork. They gained valuable experience navigating through the Bedfordshire countryside.

We are excited to see the cohort put their enhanced skills into practice during their assessed expedition on Saturday 21st to Sunday 22nd June.

Thank you very much for all the staff, without whom the expeditions could not run.
