We are thrilled to share that Year 8 athlete, Emily Elphick, has been selected to represent Bedfordshire County in two forthcoming athletics competitions.
Emily will make her pentathlon debut at the Regional Combined Events Championship on Sunday 28th June. The event includes hurdles, high jump, long jump, shot put and an 800m race. Her selection follows a series of strong performances in recent qualifying competitions, including personal bests in high jump (1.45m) and shot put (8.91m).
This week, Emily also learned that she has qualified for the English Schools Championship on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th July, where she will compete in the javelin. She set a new county record in May with a throw of 38.91m, more than 3m beyond her previous best, establishing herself as one of the most promising javelin throwers in her age group nationally.
One of the key qualifying events was the Bedfordshire Schools County Championships, where Emily was awarded Best Overall Performance by a Junior Girl.
Speaking about the opportunity, Emily said: “I am really looking forward to both events and the new challenge of a pentathlon. It will be a great experience to be part of the Bedfordshire County team and get to know the other athletes.”
We wish Emily every success as she prepares for both competitions and look forward to following her continued progress.
