By Mrs Inkson (Head of Year 6)

Our Junior Triathlon Club enjoyed an outstanding day of success at the IAPS National Triathlon Championships, held on Sunday at Monkton Prep School in Bath. Taking a team of 12 girls from Years 5 and 6, the event was filled with determination, teamwork and incredible achievements.

The morning began with the Year 5 competitors, with five out of six girls taking part in their very first triathlon. They delivered a fantastic team effort, beginning with a strong swim before moving swiftly and efficiently through transition onto a highly technical bike course. With challenging hills and tight turns, the girls put their training into practice, demonstrating excellent control in gear use, cornering, and quick mounting and dismounting.

The run course proved equally demanding, but the team showed great resilience and strength, finishing with determined performances.

This great start continued as our Year 6 athletes took part in their competition. A very strong swim and transition had all of the BGS girls out on the bike course before any competitors from other schools! Their confidence on the bike from all of our training sessions really showed as they performed brilliantly on the bike course. Finishing up, we had some exceptional performances in the run section to bring them all home.

All of the girl’s efforts were rewarded with some superb results: the Year 5 team secured an impressive team silver, while the Year 6 team achieved an outstanding team gold, highlighting the overall strength of the squad. In addition, Imogen M (Year 6) delivered a fantastic individual performance to take gold and become National Champion.

Mr Castro (Head of Swimming) and I are incredibly proud of all the triathletes and the commitment and progress they have shown throughout the season. Well done girls!
