Junior School Triathlon

By Mrs Inkson (Head of Year 6)

Last week on Wednesday morning, an excited group of girls from Years 4-6 arrived bright and early at Cople Playing Fields for the start of our weekly Triathlon Club training. Cople is the perfect setting for these sessions, with plenty of space to set up both bike and run courses that replicate what the girls will experience in a real triathlon.

After a short briefing covering what to expect and important safety rules, the girls got started on their bikes. They practised riding on grass, cornering safely, choosing the most effective gears, and becoming more confident riding with others around them.

Next came the run, a real challenge after cycling! Running straight off the bike is not easy, and many of the girls commented on how strange their legs felt at first. But they all pushed through and completed the session with big smiles.

These early morning sessions, combined with our lunchtime training, are giving the girls a great introduction to multisport events and the commitment needed to train for them. It was a brilliant first couple of weeks training, full of enthusiasm and effort, and the girls are already looking forward to the upcoming sessions.
