Junior School

By Mrs Thomas (Year 3 teacher)

This week at BGS Junior School, we have taken part in Mental Health Awareness Week, embracing this year’s theme of Connection.

At the heart of mental wellbeing is the strength of our relationships with ourselves, each other and the world around us. Throughout the week, our girls explored meaningful ways to develop these connections through a variety of thoughtful and engaging activities.

Year 3 took time each day to pause and reconnect with themselves through mindfulness and meditation, learning how to tune into their breath and body. These quiet moments gave the girls strategies to manage their emotions and encouraged a sense of calm, supporting long-term wellbeing.

One of the highlights of the week was an activity focused on "filling up our cup of positivity." The girls were encouraged to think about what makes them feel happy, calm and supported, whether it is spending time with a friend, enjoying a favourite hobby or showing kindness to others. This helped them recognise that small, positive actions can support our mental health in meaningful ways.

Our Eco Group also explored connection through creativity and nature, working outdoors to create collaborative nature art. They explored textures, colours and shapes as they produced unique pieces using natural materials found in the school grounds.

On Thursday, the whole school came together in a very visible way, as many girls and staff wore an item of green to mark the occasion. This simple gesture was a reminder that we are all connected and that by supporting one another, we grow stronger.

Mental Health Awareness Week has been a valuable opportunity to reflect, connect and grow. We are proud of the kindness, openness and thoughtfulness shown by our girls throughout the week.
