By Mrs Schofield (Head of Years 3 and 4)
Years 3 and 4 have recently taken an exciting step back in time as they began work on their own Ancient Civilisations pottery.
After their inspiring visits to the British Museum, the girls carefully studied the patterns, shapes and images found on ancient artefacts. From intricate designs to scenes showing mythology and everyday life, they gathered plenty of ideas to influence their own creations.
To help bring their designs to life, each class welcomed clay experts into school who introduced them to a range of pottery techniques used to shape and build their pots. The girls learned how to make pinch pots, coil pots and slab pots, three key methods that can be adapted and combined in many creative ways to produce something truly unique.
Armed with their new skills, the girls, in their respective Year groups, will now begin to experiment with their own designs. Over the coming weeks, they will research the imagery used by their chosen civilisation and think carefully about the stories they want their pots to tell.
