By Mrs Whomsley (Head of Year 5)
As part of our Unit of Inquiry, Sharing the Planet, Year 5 took part in a creative and thought-provoking workshop exploring how we use the Earth’s resources, and how we can make more sustainable choices. The session focused on the traditional Japanese art of origami, where we learned how to create beautiful paper decorations using entirely recycled materials we had collected including junk mail and old news articles.
The results were impressive, and the pupils were amazed by how something so simple and environmentally friendly could produce such striking results. These thoughtful creations will soon be proudly displayed in the Randle Hall foyer as a reminder that even small changes, like reusing paper, can make a meaningful impact. The workshop was a fantastic way to link creativity with sustainability and left everyone feeling inspired to reuse, repurpose and reimagine!
Grace 5B: “I am inspired to do more art with recycled materials.”
Jessica 5BR: “It was really satisfying to make something beautiful from recycling. I have kept practising what I have learnt at home.”
Alice 5CS: “I loved it! It gave me ideas of origami I can do at home. I love paper crafts and recycling!”
Sophie 5W: “It was really fun, but it made me think about wasting paper.”
