Junior School Eco and Sustainability

By Miss Coote (Year 6 Teacher)

On Tuesday Lunchtime, the Junior School Eco Club took part in The Big Plastic Count, the UK's biggest people-powered investigation into plastic waste.

Armed with litter pickers and clipboards, our girls explored the school grounds, recording the types of plastic litter they found. The data they collect will be interpreted and shared as part of a national effort to better understand the scale of the plastic problem and encourage action to reduce it.

Winnie (Year 3), a member of our Junior School Eco Club, said: “It was really fun getting to use the litter pickers, I found lots of rubbish in the bushes, and it made me feel really good that I got to help clean our garden!”

We continued participating in The Big Plastic Count for the rest of the week, adding to our data sheet.

It is a fantastic example of our students being inquirers and caring members of their community, taking small steps today to make a big difference for our planet.
