By Mrs Thomas (Year 5 Teacher)

Last week, our Year 5 pupils took part in an energetic and vibrant Spanish Fusion Dance Workshop in partnership with Bedford School. The session brought European culture to life through rhythm, movement and teamwork.

Exploring Spanish and Latin dance styles, pupils discovered how culture influences behaviour and expression. The proud posture and dramatic intensity of Flamenco highlighted strong cultural identity and storytelling traditions, helping pupils understand how values shape the way people move and celebrate. Partner work in Salsa and shared Samba rhythms showed how communities connect through music and dance. Working in pairs strengthened communication skills, as pupils listened carefully, maintained eye contact and moved in harmony with one another.

Pupils were also encouraged to consider perspective, using performance to represent different roles and viewpoints. Through character and expression, they reflected on how beliefs shape the way we see the world.

Throughout the workshop, pupils showed impressive resilience and focus, practising steps and turns until they performed the final routine with confidence and flair. Their teamwork and pride were wonderful to see.

A fantastic session that developed coordination, confidence, collaboration and cultural understanding. ¡Olé!
