Junior School Music

We are so proud of talented choral singer Neve (Year 6), who took part in St Catherine’s College Girls’ Choir performance of Britten's War Requiem at Ely Cathedral on Saturday.

This marks Neve’s third year as a chorister at St Catherine’s College Girls’ Choir in Cambridge. She was encouraged to audition by her piano teacher, Mrs Huntly Prinn. The audition was conducted by the college’s musical director and Chaplain. Neve attends choir twice weekly, on Mondays and Tuesdays, with the Tuesday evening service, called Luminaria, providing a special opportunity to perform, even though it coincides with school choir rehearsals.

Neve reflected: “It was thrilling to perform in such an amazing space and empowering to sing alongside so many talented musicians. I was in awe of everyone and felt proud to be part of such a big performance.”

The performance was conducted by Ludvic Morlot, musical director of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, and included renowned soloists, the Cambridge University Orchestra, several adult university choirs, and the boy choristers of Jesus College. The sold-out event was a truly unforgettable experience for all involved.

We are inspired by Neve’s dedication, skill, and professionalism at just 11 years old, and we are delighted to see her taking full advantage of opportunities to develop her musical talents beyond the classroom.
