By Mrs Baker (Year 6 Teacher)
Last week, Year 6 enjoyed a valuable opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom as part of their PYP Who We Are Unit of Inquiry. In beautiful spring sunshine, we walked along the Embankment to Queen’s Park, making the most of the glorious weather as we went.
The girls visited All Saints’ Parish Church, Jamia Masjid Gulshane Bagdhad Mosque and Guru Nanak Gurdwara, three places of worship located close to one another in Queen’s Park. At each venue, members of the faith communities warmly welcomed us and shared insights into their beliefs and traditions as well as answering the girls’ questions. One of the most interesting aspects of the day was noticing the similarities between religions, as well as their distinct practices. The girls reflected on shared values such as community, service and compassion, linking closely to our current Line of Inquiry.
We are pleased that this learning will continue in school this week, when parents from the Hindu and Jewish faiths will be visiting to give presentations and share their experiences, further broadening the girls’ understanding.
We are very proud of the mature and considerate way in which Year 6 approached the day. Our sincere thanks to faith communities who welcomed us so generously, and to the parents who continue to enrich our curriculum with their time and expertise.
