Junior School Music

By Mr Page (Director of Music)

Thursday night saw the return of the Summer Term’s Junior Teatime Concert, and what a spectacular evening it was! With a record-breaking 29 talented performers ready to take the stage, and the sun beaming outside, we moved the event to a grander setting, the Assembly Hall.

Was the bigger space daunting? Did the larger audience or the majestic Steinway Grand Piano faze our young musicians? Not one bit! Each performer rose to the occasion, dazzling the audience with confidence, skill, and beautiful musicality.

The concert featured a fantastic variety of performances. From heartfelt songs like “Maybe” and “Part of Your World”, to stirring violin, flute and clarinet solos, every moment shone. The piano took centre stage with an impressive 19 performances, showcasing everything from classical gems to catchy modern tunes. There were musical theatre favourites, dramatic classical pieces, and delightfully imaginative works with titles like “The Very Vicious Velociraptor” and “Merlin’s Incantation.”

The audience was captivated throughout, rewarding each brave performer with warm, enthusiastic applause. There were proud smiles, a few relieved sighs and many well-deserved bows.

The larger venue proved to be a perfect fit for our growing community of young musicians. With so many eager performers, who knows – perhaps a future concert might need an even bigger stage... Wembley Arena, anyone?

To top off the evening, tea and biscuits were thoroughly enjoyed by all. And although the concert was packed with wonderful performances, it just about finished early enough to still be called a Teatime Concert – rather than a Dinnertime one!
