By Mrs Martin (Head of Year 3)
This half term, our Year 3 girls have been exploring how organisations use sound to communicate effectively with their audience. As part of our transdisciplinary Unit of Inquiry, they were challenged to design and record their own short jingles musical hooks that make a message memorable.
Using the creative tool Chrome Music Lab - Song Maker, the girls experimented with pitch, rhythm, and instrument choices to compose a 5-10 second sound logo. Their mission? To design a jingle that would promote a simple product: an apple! From punchy beats to cheerful melodies, their compositions reflected thoughtful decisions about mood, tone and branding.
This fun, hands-on task not only introduced them to digital composition, but also deepened their understanding of how sound can be used in marketing and everyday communication. We were impressed by their creativity, teamwork, and reflection as they evaluated which jingles were most effective in grabbing attention and reinforcing their message.
Next up? Exploring how visual elements like colour, light and logo design work alongside sound to shape a brand's identity.
