Senior School Design Technology

On Tuesday, our Years 10 and Lower Sixth Design and Technology students visited the Design Museum in London, where they were given the opportunity to explore contemporary design practice in a real world setting.

During the visit, students took part in two workshops, Stranger Designs and Materials. These sessions encouraged students to consider how designers challenge expectations and how the selection of materials can shape the function, feel and purpose of a product. The workshops prompted thoughtful discussion and encouraged students to think creatively about their own design work.

Students also explored the Designer Maker User exhibition, which provided insight into the design process and the relationships between those who design, produce and use everyday products. This supported their understanding of how ideas move from concept to final outcome and the many influences that shape design decisions.

The trip linked closely to key areas of the Design and Technology curriculum, including product analysis, material choice, sustainability and wider social and cultural influences on design. It gave students the opportunity to connect classroom learning with current practice in the design industry and will support their ongoing coursework.

Overall, it was an inspiring and informative visit that brought design learning to life.
