On Friday 5th June, our Years 6 and 7 athletes secured an impressive five medals, including two gold, at the East Preps Athletics competition, competing against representatives from 52 other schools at BIAS.
All our entrants had met the qualifying standards, but we knew the competition would be tough. 1st and 2nd place in each event go on to represent the East of England at the Nationals in Birmingham on 1st July.
In the U12 section, Year 6’s attended their first senior athletics competition with confidence. Zoya came 5th in her heat in the 150m. Elysia came 9th overall in the 75m sprint, missing the final 8 by 0.1 second. Lily beat her personal best by 5 seconds and came an impressive 3rd in the 600m by a fraction of a second. Imogen came 6th in the long jump but walked away with the Gold medal in the inaugural 1200m setting a record of 4m01.8.
In the U13 section, Year 7 Flo secured 8th overall. Emily was 3rd in her 200m heat and took the bronze medal throwing 20m31 in the javelin. Arlana took the silver medal, coming 2nd in the 100m in 14.00s.
In the U14 section, Evie had a tough heat in the 200m. Georgia came 10th in the high jump, Izzy came 6th in the shot putt, Lottie ran an impressive 13.7 in the 100m final to secure 4th overall. Coco threw the javelin with a pb of 25m66 to secure the gold medal.
When you read these results, you forget there were at least 28 competitors in each event. What a fantastic day of athletics. So many performances to build on and be proud of!
Congratulations to Imogen, Arlana and Coco who go on to represent the ‘East’ in July.
