U11 Football tournament
By Mr Tarrant (Sports Coach)
Our Years 5 and 6 U11 team delivered fantastic performances on Wednesday 6th May, going undefeated and not conceding a single goal. The girls showed excellent teamwork and resilience throughout, representing the school brilliantly on and off the pitch.
Ishaana C scored the team’s first goal of the tournament in her first ever school fixture, an excellent achievement on her debut.
Jessica C, our goalkeeper, was outstanding in the pool games and played a key role in the team’s defensive success. Unfortunately, she suffered an injury in the penultimate match, but Zoya G and Jessica N stepped into goal and performed superbly, showing real bravery when needed.
Nancy C, a Year 5 pupil, impressed by scoring a hat-trick across two games, including one standout goal of the day.
Throughout the tournament, the girls reflected on each performance, learned from every game, and showed great resilience and confidence. Most importantly, they enjoyed the experience and finished as deserved Plate winners, an excellent achievement.
U13 Football tournament
By Mr Mason-McLeod (Head of Hockey)
Our Years 7 and 8 U13 football team enjoyed an excellent day on Thursday 7th May, progressing through the group stages unbeaten and finishing top of Group A.
BGS opened with a 4-0 win over Loughborough High, followed by a 1-0 victory against Alderley Edge School for Girls. They continued their strong form with a 2-0 win over King Edward VI High School, alongside further victories against Queen’s College, London (3-0) and Edgbaston High School (4-0), and a 1-1 draw with St Mary’s School Ascot.
Several matches were closely contested, with BGS showing resilience in key moments while maintaining strong control of possession. Across the group stage, the team combined disciplined defending with confident attacking play, conceding just one goal in six matches and finishing with 16 points and a goal difference of +14.
In the semi-final, BGS faced hosts King’s High School in a tight match with limited chances. Despite another disciplined performance, they narrowly lost 1-0.
Although disappointed not to reach the final, the team can be proud of their consistency, teamwork and composure throughout the tournament.
