Senior School Duke of Edinburgh (DofE)

By Miss Sadler (DofE Bronze Coordinator)

Last weekend, 33 students successfully completed their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition in Bedford, with their base camp at The Leslie Sell Activity Centre (LSAC), located in Bromham, Bedford . Working in teams, they undertook their assessed journeys, navigating independently while demonstrating resilience, teamwork and determination throughout the weekend.

Despite experiencing varied weather conditions, all participants rose to the occasion, showcasing their developing map-reading skills and supporting one another along the route to each checkpoint. Staff and volunteer assessors commended the students for their positive attitudes, effective problem-solving abilities and commitment to meeting the expedition requirements.

The expedition not only tested the students’ physical endurance but also provided valuable opportunities to develop leadership, cooperation and perseverance, all key principles of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme. This spirit of teamwork was especially apparent when one student's boot fell apart, with those around them rallying together to help overcome the unexpected challenge. Completing this expedition represents an important milestone in each student's DofE journey, and we are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved.

A huge thank you goes to all the staff who generously gave up their time over the weekend. Without their support, this expedition would not have been possible.
