On Friday 26th June, Year 8 had the opportunity to visit Thinktank at Millenium Point, Birmingham.
Thinktank is an award-winning science museum with over 200 science and technology hands-on displays, plus a digital Planetarium and outdoor Science Garden. Students are able to experience a world of discovery all under one roof.
A number of displays make reference to Birmingham specifically. For example, the rich industrial and technological history of the city in manufacturing, including significant machines developed in the region, such as a speed record breaking car and original steam engines.
In addition, our visit included the Out into Orbit planetarium show, which was really informative, fascinating and entertaining.
Zaynah Ghafoor (Year (8) reflected: “I found the trip to Thinktank in Birmingham very exciting. The museum had three floors, each with a different theme. One floor was about the human body and animals, another focused on inventions and things humans have created, and the last floor explored engineering and machines. I enjoyed learning about how things work and seeing the interactive exhibits. My favourite part of the trip was the Out into Orbit show in the planetarium because I am particularly interested in space. I found it fascinating to learn more about planets, stars, and space exploration.”
Abhinaya Sivakumar (Year 8) added: “The trip to Thinktank was a very exciting experience. I particularly enjoyed exploring the biology sections such as evolution and the human body as the visuals, interactive activities and eye-catching displays made the exhibits even more intriguing. I learned a lot about how Science has changed the world over time which helped me to develop a better understanding of how it is so deeply integrated into everything in this day and age.”
