Junior School Eco and Sustainability

By Miss Coote (Junior School Teacher) and Mrs Wholmsley (Eco Co-ordinator)

Over the Easter holidays, the Junior School Eco Club launched a whole-school competition called Bedford Girls’ in Bloom, encouraging pupils and staff to spend time outdoors and celebrate nature during the Easter holidays.

The challenge invited girls and their families to take a photograph of themselves enjoying the great outdoors over the break. Entries were uploaded and on returning to school, Eco Club members were delighted to see such a wonderful collection of creative and nature-filled photographs.

The competition was introduced during a Junior School assembly before the end of term, with Eco Club members explaining the importance of appreciating the natural world and encouraging everyone to get outside, whether that meant visiting parks, gardens, countryside walks or simply enjoying time outdoors with family and friends.

The Year 6 Eco Club members played a key role in organising the competition, promoting the event and helping to review the entries once they had been submitted.

Georgia Whiteman (6P) said: “We had great fun looking through the photos and choosing our favourites!”

India Wild (6I) added: “I was so impressed with all of the entries and how much effort some people went to, I wasn't expecting it!”

The Eco Club would like to thank everyone who took part and shared their photographs. The entries were full of joy, creativity and appreciation for the environment, making it incredibly difficult to choose the winners.
