There is a real sense of excitement in Year 6 as the PYP Exhibition journey officially begins! The girls have approached this important milestone with enthusiasm and curiosity, and it has been wonderful to see their excitement grow as they take ownership of their learning.
Working collaboratively in small groups of three, the students have selected global issues that they feel passionately about. Their chosen topics reflect both the diversity of their interests and their awareness of the world around them. From ocean pollution and the impact of artificial intelligence, to gender inequality, children’s mental health, fast fashion and accessibility in sport, the range of issues is impressive and thought-provoking.
Each group has already begun to shape their inquiries by developing thoughtful lines of inquiry. These focus on key elements such as:
- Understanding and explaining the issue itself
- Exploring the causes or how the issue has evolved over time
- Identifying practical actions that can help reduce or address the issue
One of the highlights of this week has been the first mentor meetings. The girls were thrilled to meet the staff members from across the school community who will be guiding and supporting them throughout their exhibition journey. Our mentors come from a wide range of roles across the school including colleagues from HR and Admissions, Upper Sixth tutors, Junior School staff, and members of the Senior Leadership Team.
These weekly mentor sessions will play a vital role over the coming weeks. Mentors will help the groups to refine their ideas, encourage deeper thinking, offer advice, and ensure that students stay focused and organised. It is a fantastic opportunity for the girls to learn from different perspectives and further develop their independence and confidence as well as bringing the whole school community together.
With such a strong and enthusiastic start, we are very much looking forward to the next five weeks of learning, collaboration, and discovery. The Year 6 PYP Exhibition promises to be an inspiring showcase of the girls’ understanding, creativity and commitment to making a difference.
