As part of our Sharing the Planet unit, the girls enjoyed a thoughtful walk along the banks of the River Great Ouse, exploring how water connects people, animals, and the environment.
Along the river, they observed many different uses of the waterway and surrounding area. They spotted goslings and swans resting safely in protected hatching areas, while nearby people rowed along the river and visited a canal boat serving pizza and a busy café. The girls also noticed dogs being walked, cars passing by, and houses built close to the riverbanks.
As they explored, the children looked carefully for signs of plastic pollution and rubbish, discussing the impact this could have on wildlife and habitats. They considered how litter might harm animals, pollute the water, and damage this beautiful natural environment. The walk encouraged the girls to think about their own responsibility in helping to care for and protect the river for both people and wildlife to enjoy in the future.
Amber K (3S) reflected: "I learned we need to look after the environment so animals like swans don’t get damaged."
Clarke T (3W) added "If we keep littering the river almost all wildlife will disappear. People need to remember to not litter so we can protect our wildlife."
