Junior School Trips and Excursions

By Mrs Martin (Head of Year 5)

There is something very special about taking learning beyond the classroom, and our Year 5 residential to Knolls Farm, Dorset last week certainly did not disappoint.

After arriving on Wednesday lunchtime, the girls wasted no time beginning their adventure. Following a quick lunch, we headed to the iconic Corfe Castle, perched high in the Purbeck Hills. As we explored the dramatic ruins, the girls learned about the castle’s fascinating history and the infamous King John. Walking through the remains of this once-mighty fortress brought history to life and sparked curiosity.

Back at camp, it was time to settle into our home for the next few days before heading to nearby Swanage. There, we enjoyed fish and chips by the sea and tried our hand at crab catching along the seafront.

Thursday brought some rather determined Dorset weather. With strong winds and heavy rain making coasteering unsafe, plans were swiftly adapted. One group went climbing while the other tackled Taskmaster-inspired challenges. The climbing group embarked on a spectacular coastal walk, rewarded with breathtaking sea views, and every girl attempted the climb despite the conditions. Their determination, positivity, team encouragement and willingness to step outside their comfort zones made us incredibly proud.

Meanwhile, the Taskmaster teams embraced creativity and collaboration, from Dragon’s Den-style pitches to composing team songs and building towers. The girls demonstrated imagination, teamwork and plenty of humour.

That evening, after burgers and wedges, we headed into the field for a lively game of rounders. Needless to say, tired heads quickly found their sleeping bags.

By Friday morning, we were excited for our final adventure. After breakfast we travelled to Studland Beach for a wild swim. While the sea was certainly fresh, it was wonderful to see every girl embrace the challenge with enthusiasm. Following lunch, we boarded the coach for home, reflecting on a residential area that was about far more than activities. The girls demonstrated courage, resilience, independence, kindness and teamwork throughout.

As a Year 5 team, we could not have been prouder. The girls represented themselves and the school brilliantly, embodying our value of being Bold at every opportunity. They returned home tired, perhaps a little windswept, but full of confidence, achievement and memories that will last for years to come.
