On an unassuming Tuesday evening in mid-March, Rock Night came crashing into town. The Quarry Theatre at Bedford School was transformed into a vibrant live music venue, complete with lights, haze, a mosh pit, and high-energy rock.
A wide range of bands and musical styles were on display, and it was fantastic to see the confidence and musicality with which BGS girls performed throughout the evening.
Two particularly exciting bands are emerging in Year 10. Resolution (Eleanor Benham, Olivia Deverill and Esme Wiltshire) opened with a strong performance of Don’t Stop Believin’, followed later by Earths Collide (Ella Morgan-Jones, Maya Okonkwo, Maya Patel, Florence Sexton and Sylvia Thompson), who delivered high-energy renditions of Everybody Talks and End of Beginning.
Other BGS girls also performed alongside musicians from the boys’ school. Danae Karavaggelis, Emma McColm and Mitali Misra formed part of Gossip Train, giving a fantastic cover of A Place for My Head, while Imogen Blower provided vocals for an outstanding performance of Jamiroquai’s Virtual Insanity. Towards the end of the evening, more BGS vocalists took to the stage: Polly Martin sang Need You Now, Livin’ on a Prayer and Don’t Look Back in Anger, while Elsie Butler and Mia Vadgama performed Remember to Forget You and You Give Love a Bad Name. All sang with impressive power, capturing the distinctive style of each contrasting song.
The evening was a wonderful celebration of both the students’ musical talent and the enduring appeal of rock music. View photos here.
