By Señora Gómez (Head of Spanish)
We are proud of Nicole and Lara, two of our Lower Sixth Spanish students, who represented the school last Wednesday in a Spanish debating competition organised by Bedford School. Students from Bedford Modern School and St Albans School also took part.
During the competition, students defended three motions across a series of rounds. Nicole and Lara presented their arguments with clarity of thought and strong language skills, which enabled them to progress to the final.
In the final round against Bedford School, they delivered an excellent defence of an unprepared motion, demonstrating impressive spontaneity and thoughtful responses in Spanish. Their performance earned them second place, missing first place by just one point.
Events such as this provide a valuable opportunity for language students to apply their learning in an authentic setting. Debating encourages careful listening, clear expression and the ability to think and respond quickly in Spanish.
Nicole and Lara represented the school with great commitment, and their success reflects both their dedication and the high standard of Spanish they have developed.
