Our Lower Sixth Economics students took their learning beyond the classroom with a visit into Bedford town centre as part of their regeneration project. The trip provided a valuable opportunity for students to apply the economic theory they have studied throughout the year to a real-world context.
Working in small groups, students selected different areas of the town to investigate, analysing factors such as footfall, business activity, infrastructure and overall appeal. They then considered how these areas could be improved, developing ideas for regeneration and evaluating the potential impact these changes could have on the local economy. From increasing employment opportunities to boosting local businesses and attracting investment, students explored how economic decisions can shape communities.
The visit allowed students to bring concepts such as market failure, government intervention and economic growth to life, deepening their understanding through direct observation and analysis. It also encouraged them to think critically about the challenges facing town centres today and the role of policy in driving sustainable development.
