On Tuesday, our Lower Sixth Textiles students visited Graduate Fashion Week in the heart of London’s Brick Lane.
The Graduate Fashion Foundation annually presents Graduate Fashion Week, the largest showcase of BA fashion in the world with the most influential and inspiring UK and international universities and colleges on show. It provides a fantastic opportunity to see the freshest talent from 26 different fashion disciplines.
Our visit provided students with an invaluable insight into the exciting world of fashion, design, and creative careers. Throughout the day, we attended a programme of inspiring talks led by industry professionals, including sessions such as Building a Career as an Innovation Designer presented by the Pentland Group, and Is Who You Know Still More Important Than What You Know? Beyond Networking: How to Build Meaningful Career Relationships. These discussions offered students a unique perspective on the skills, experiences, and connections needed to succeed within the creative industries.
Students also had the opportunity to explore the Digital Lab, where they experienced cutting-edge software including FERMAT and CLO. These interactive workshops showcased innovative digital technologies that are transforming contemporary design practices and shaping the future of the industry.
The event featured a dedicated Jobs Hub, supported by leading recruitment organisations including Fashion Workie, Dweet, Elite Associates, Everly Studio, and Fashion Network. Students were able to explore graduate vacancies, gain valuable insight into career pathways, and receive expert advice on developing their CVs and portfolios.
A particular highlight of the day was attending the graduate fashion shows from the University of Lancashire and Norwich University of the Arts. These impressive catwalk presentations celebrated creativity, innovation, and the exceptional talent emerging from higher education.
Overall, the visit was a fantastic opportunity for students to gather inspiration for future study, career progression, and their own creative practice. We were incredibly proud of the exemplary behaviour, professionalism, and enthusiasm demonstrated by our students, who represented the school superbly and undoubtedly left a positive impression on university admissions tutors and industry professionals alike.
