Many congratulations to our Lower Sixth Chemistry students on their excellent performance in this year’s UK Chemistry Olympiad.
Our students achieved an impressive set of results, with Poppy Clarke awarded a Silver certificate. Bronze certificates were awarded to Zaynab Choudhury, Kara Farquhar, Mirna Osman, Rosalind Palmer, Lizzie Small and Hania Tauqeer.
Rosalind said: “I enjoyed taking part in the chemistry Olympiad as it allowed me to apply the knowledge I have gained so far by doing A Level Chemistry. I especially liked how I could use my skills in real life application which was especially satisfying and rewarding. Taking part in this competition also helped me prepare for my future as it is something I will be able to include on my personal statement for university application.”
Kara added: “Participating in the Chemistry Olympiad was such a great experience. Learning to apply chemistry in a broader context will be super useful for exam skills and university applications. It was a great opportunity which was super fun!”
The UK Chemistry Olympiad, organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry, is the leading national competition for post-16 students studying Chemistry. Open to schools and colleges across the UK, it provides a rigorous challenge that goes well beyond the A Level curriculum. This year, 17,241 students from 1,153 schools took part in the competition.
It’s a fantastic achievement for all involved, particularly given the level of challenge the paper presents.
