On Friday 6 March, a group of our Sixth Form students attended the prestigious Raleigh Lecture at Drapers’ Hall in London, joining pupils from other schools for an inspiring afternoon focused on the theme“AI for Good – The Real-World Impact of Artificial Intelligence. The event explored how artificial intelligence is already transforming industries such as technology, finance, defence and enterprise, while also raising important questions about ethics, sustainability and responsible innovation.
Throughout the afternoon, students heard from a range of expert speakers who shared real examples of how AI is being used to address global challenges, from improving healthcare and supporting education, to helping organisations tackle climate-related issues. Interactive sessions encouraged students to think critically about both the opportunities and risks associated with emerging technologies. The programme also included collaborative activities where students worked with peers from other schools to develop thoughtful questions for the speakers and engage in discussion about the future role of AI in society.
Students found the experience both inspiring and thought-provoking.
Seren M (Lower Sixth) said: “Attending the Raleigh Lecture was an amazing experience. It really opened my eyes to the possibilities of AI as well as the concerns surrounding the environmental impact. We got to interact with other schools and collaborate to come up with questions for the speakers.”
Lara S (Lower Sixth) added: “It was a thought-provoking session that encouraged us as students to think about how technology can be a force for good in the world.”
Holly S (Lower Sixth) reflected: “The Raleigh Lecture at Drapers’ Hall was an excellent experience and really engaging. It was fascinating to hear the speakers’ different perspectives on AI and to think about how it can be used as a tool to support education.”
The visit offered students a valuable opportunity to engage with cutting-edge ideas, collaborate with others and consider how technological innovation can be used as a force for good in the future.
