Sixth Form Business and Economics

By Mrs Simms (Head of Business and Economics)

A group of our Upper Sixth students recently attended a UBS Insight Day organised by GAIN (Girls Are Investors), an organisation dedicated to improving gender diversity in the finance industry and inspiring young women to pursue careers in investment and financial services.

The day began with an introduction to GAIN’s mission and the range of events, mentoring schemes and opportunities they offer to support young women interested in finance. Students were then welcomed by representatives from UBS, who provided an overview of the firm, its key departments and the variety of routes into the organisation, including graduate programmes, apprenticeships and internship pathways.

A panel featuring employees from across UBS, including project management, asset management and client management answered questions about their roles, career journeys and what working in a global financial institution is really like. This was followed by a career carousel, where students had the chance to network with staff, learn about degree apprenticeships, and explore internship and placement opportunities available through universities.

During lunch, the group enjoyed valuable one-to-one conversations with recent graduates and interns, gaining honest insights into day-to-day responsibilities, teamwork, workplace culture and what initially drew them to the finance sector. They also discussed how interns are supported and encouraged to collaborate across teams.

Our students represented the school really well, asking thoughtful questions and engaging throughout the day. They left feeling inspired, informed and excited about the range of future career paths available in the world of finance.
