Senior School Lacrosse

We are delighted for talented lacrosse player Sophia Howard (Year 10), who has been selected for the Regional Aspire Programme following a successful trial at the England Lacrosse Aspire Camp.

During the trials, Sophia completed a range of drills and played several matches. She received detailed feedback on her technique in positioning and defending, which she found very useful. The players were observed and scored throughout, and Sophia competed against some highly skilled players from other leading schools.

Sophia’s love of lacrosse began in Year 6 while watching her older sister play in BGS matches at Cople Fields. Inspired by her sister, she decided to take up the sport and has worked hard to develop her skills and become a successful player.

Sophia reflected on her selection: “I love lacrosse season! As a defender I enjoy the important role of protecting the goal, and I also love that the sport is fast paced, competitive and gives me the opportunity to make new friends. It was an honour to be selected by someone outside BGS who recognised my skills and could help me develop them further. Playing lacrosse has also improved my coordination, which has benefited me in other sports, and I am keen to do all I can to reach my best level in lacrosse.

“With Sixes Lacrosse now an Olympic sport for LA 2028, it is an exciting opportunity to progress in such an internationally recognised sport. I will be attending training weekends with the regional squad to learn about time management, nutrition, resilience, and specific skills and positioning.”

The Aspire Programme is England Lacrosse’s development pathway for young players who want to take their game to the next level. It provides the skills, training and support needed to progress towards potentially representing England.
