This week across the Junior School, students have taken part in a wonderful range of activities to recognise and raise awareness of World Mental Health Day, which is marked globally each year on 10th October. The day provides an important opportunity to reflect on how we can care for our minds as well as our bodies.
This year’s global theme, Access to Services - Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies, inspired open-minded discussions in classrooms, helping pupils explore how mental health can be supported in many different situations. Teachers led activities designed to encourage mindfulness, emotional awareness, and empathy, and it was inspiring to hear pupils share thoughtful ideas about how they look after their wellbeing and support others.
Throughout the week, pupils reflected on the many ways they can nurture their own mental health and enjoyed sharing their favourite strategies for feeling calm and positive. During Lunchtime Yoga Club, students explored how yoga can help them connect with others through partner poses and breathing techniques, while members of Eco Club enjoyed a peaceful walk to the sensory gardens, sketching the natural world around them and taking time to appreciate the calming effects of nature.
A super ending to the week was to see the Junior school filled with little glimmers of happiness and sunshine as students embraced the “Wear Yellow” theme, with bright socks, ribbons, and accessories creating a joyful and uplifting atmosphere throughout the Junior School.
Overall, it was heartwarming to see how much the children enjoyed taking part in these activities. We hope the week has inspired them to continue making their mental wellbeing a daily priority and to keep showing kindness and care to others in our community.
