By Mrs Martin (Head of Year 5)

Year 5 have recently turned their focus to one of the most fascinating aspects of our inquiry: the impact of exploration on people and the planet.

After watching a BBC documentary featuring Steve Backshall’s inspiring work to reignite the world’s coral reefs, the girls have delved into the concept of responsible exploration. From the dense biodiversity of the Amazon to the icy altitudes of Everest, they’ve been analysing how human choices shape both local environments and global interdependence.

Using real-world case studies, map overlays, and artistic interpretations, our budding explorers have begun creating regions that reflect both past environmental challenges and hopeful visions of future stewardship. They will go on to debate questions of responsibility, map out sustainable landscapes, and reflect on how curiosity and care must go hand-in-hand.
