On Tuesday 20th January, Year 5 enjoyed a culinary tapas experience in the Randle Hall. The session reinforced their learning of food related vocabulary and deepened their understanding of Spanish language and culture through food.

The experience encourages our girls to work together and share ideas, reflecting the way tapas are enjoyed as a shared meal. Through this, they develop respect and an understanding of another country’s traditions in a way that feels purposeful and enjoyable.

The workshop also helped bring Spanish to life, as Year 5 were able to connect new vocabulary with real objects, flavours and shared experiences. This practical approach helped reinforce understanding and encouraged confidence in using new language.

During the workshop, pupils  experienced a range of traditional Spanish tapas, including pan con tomate, bread served with tomato and olive oil, queso Manchego, a sheep’s milk cheese from La Mancha, tortilla de patata, a classic Spanish potato omelette, and churros con chocolate, sweet fried dough served with chocolate sauce.

The success of this workshop relies on the valued support and collaboration of Year 5 teachers, support staff members, and Head Chef, Mr Howard, whose guidance ensures a safe, well-organised, and engaging experience for all pupils.
