On Friday 13th June, our Lower Sixth Textiles students visited Graduate Fashion Week in the heart of London’s Brick Lane.
The Graduate Fashion Foundation annually presents Graduate Fashion Week, the largest showcase of BA fashion in the world with the most influential and inspiring UK and international universities and colleges on show. It provides a fantastic opportunity to see the freshest talent from 26 different fashion disciplines.
On the day we attended there was a live programme of industry professionals presenting discussions around the subjects including What makes a great Designer from the Next Design Team and What are Fashion Recruiters Looking for in New Talent?
The Digital Workshops allowed students to experience transformative cutting-edge technology that will challenge current industry approaches to using digital media.
There was also a live jobs hub supported by leading recruitment companies including Fashion Workie, Dweet, Elite Associate, Everly Studio and Fashion Network. A jobs wall featured current graduate vacancies, there were recruitment specialists on hand to provide CV and Portfolio Advice.
Emily Feiger (Lower Sixth) commented: “I loved the trip to Graduate Fashion Week, it allowed me to speak with experts in Fashion Design. I was able to see physical outcomes from a wide range of different Universities. It gave me a better idea of the kind of garments I would be designing and making; it was very interactive; I was able to try on garments and talk to the designers about their work. I sampled some of the digital processes used in the Fashion Industry and made sure I collected as many prospectuses, look books and student generated Fashion Marketing materials and Magazines as I could. It expanded my University choices and confirmed my choice of studying on a Fashion related course”
We had a fantastic day gathering inspiration not only for progression and career options, but also for design and presentation of ideas. The impeccable behaviour of our students hopefully left a great impression on University Admissions Tutors and Industry Professionals.
