Local, Stalls and Games

On Saturday 28th June from 2pm to 4pm, BGS will host its second CultureFest. With so much planned across the afternoon, staff and students are working hard behind the scenes to prepare a wide range of stalls and activities. You can view the full programme here.

Our Supporting BGS Local initiative encourages students to explore their creativity and entrepreneurial thinking. It provides a platform for students to showcase and deliver their small business ideas in imaginative ways.

Zaynab (Year 11) said: “Crocheting has been one of my hobbies since childhood as I learnt it as a junior. It’s a great way to unwind and just use your hands to fiddle around with exceptionally satisfying results (which make the crazy time commitment worth it!). At CultureFest, I plan on selling a variety of crocheted keychains for charity: from fluffy bees, bunnies and jellyfish to cherry cats, bow charms and interior plant décor. I can’t wait to go to CultureFest again as there are a ton of performances and delicious food demonstrations that were fabulous the first time and can only be better this time - the food carvings were amazing!”

Beatrice (Year 7) commented: “I am excited to be running my own stall at this year’s CultureFest. At my stall I will be selling a variety of homemade crafts and goods, which includes jewellery, stationery and household items.  I have always enjoyed making gifts for friends and family and after reading the daily bulletin I was excited to see the opportunity to run my own stall with the items that I make. At CultureFest I am looking forward to seeing what my fellow peers are showcasing whether this is through dance, music or other stalls, raising money for charity and being part of the wider BGS community.”

Mia (Year 7) reflected: “I will be selling beaded charms that you can hang on your bag, your phone or even your pencil case. I will also be selling bracelets, bookmarks and keychains. I got into this hobby as I love art and fashion, so I decided to try out beading and now I have my own little hobby that I am passionate about and enjoy. Lastly, I am very excited for culture day especially for the cultural dances and the food from all these amazing, wonderful places.”

Arianna (Year 7) said: At our stall we will be selling keychains and cute bracelets. I’m really excited because I just can’t wait to hang out with my friends, selling stuff we all enjoyed making. I actually got into bracelet making about a year ago, and I’ve kept progressing every few months. I started off with loom bands and now I’m making ones that people look at and love. I got into bracelet making after trying lots of different hobbies that didn’t quite work for me, but this one just stuck. Now, when I’m bored or need a break, I make bracelets. It helps me relax and clears my head.”

The Activity Stalls offer a welcoming and engaging way to learn more about different cultures, have a go at winning a prize or two, and try out new skills.

The Junior School is preparing a wide selection of events, including a physical circuit designed to test coordination and balance, a garden treasure hunt to uncover country-themed letter stamps, and a flag-designing station where pupils can create their own national emblems.

Our House Captains and Prefects are also leading a variety of hands-on activities. Austen and Hepburn will host a friendship bracelet workshop, Chanel will offer colourful hair wraps, Franklin will run a face-painting station, Nightingale will lead lantern making, and Parks will be bringing fairground games to the festival field.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming the BGS community to this celebration of culture.
