This year’s Summer Show on Tuesday evening was a wonderful celebration of creativity, innovation and artistic achievement. The exhibition space was buzzing throughout the event welcoming students, parents, staff and members of the wider community.
In Textiles Design, Year 9 students investigated natural forms as a source of inspiration, drawing on the work of William Morris. Through a process of research, design development and experimentation, they created original motifs which were translated into lino prints and subsequently applied to beautifully constructed skirts. The resulting outcomes demonstrated both creativity and a strong understanding of the design process.
Year 9 Fine Art students showcased an impressive collection of charcoal drawings and ceramic sculptures, demonstrating both technical skill and thoughtful personal expression. Through their work, students explored themes of identity, producing highly reflective and individual responses that revealed growing confidence in their creative practice.
On show for the GCSE Fine Art and Textiles Design, students presented work of an exceptionally high standard, showcasing a diverse range of techniques and materials. From intricate felted pieces to striking sculptural mobiles, the exhibition highlighted students’ willingness to experiment, take creative risks and develop highly personal outcomes. Their work was both imaginative and innovative, reflecting the dedication and commitment invested throughout their courses.
The A Level Fine Art and Textiles Design exhibition represented the culmination of two years of sustained creative exploration, experimentation and development. Students demonstrated remarkable depth of research, critical understanding and technical accomplishment. The quality of work on display was outstanding, with each project revealing a sophisticated and highly individual artistic voice.
My sincere thanks go to our dedicated team of teachers and technicians, whose expertise, enthusiasm and unwavering commitment to consistently go above and beyond in supporting our students to achieve their very best. Their contribution is invaluable and plays a significant role in the success of our Art & Textiles department year after year.
As my twentieth and final exhibition at BGS, it was particularly rewarding to witness such an inspiring showcase of talent and achievement, and I know that BGS students will continue to push themselves to be innovative and creative thinkers in the future.
