Sixth Form IB

By Alice Everitt (Lower Sixth)

On Tuesday 17th June, the Lower Sixth IB cohort joined together with Bedford School to present the Theory of Knowledge Exhibition (ToK). ToK is a core component of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme that encourages students to reflect on the nature of knowledge and how we know what we claim to know. It invites critical thinking across disciplines and helps students consider how knowledge is constructed, evaluated and communicated in different contexts.

At the event, kindly hosted by Bedford School in the library, each student brought three objects and a prompt question which linked all of them together, exploring the different ways in which knowledge is perceived, changes, and is used.

It was a good opportunity for everyone to develop their verbal reasoning skills and also be challenged on their views and gain experience of being articulate in their thinking in high pressure situations, which had been good interview preparation for people applying to universities which require interviews.

Sonia Erwig (Lower Sixth) said: “I really enjoyed having the chance to showcase my work and also see how other people interpreted different prompts in different ways.”

Danae Karavaggelis (Lower Sixth) added: “It was very interesting to hear about other people’s exhibitions and I now have lots of new ideas for the write up.”
