On Tuesday night, Randle Hall was transformed into a theatre space for our Musical Theatre Evening. The event highlighted the vocal talents of students through a varied and thoughtful programme of musical numbers.
Arts Captain Rosie Freear compered the evening with composure and a warm presence, linking each performance with clarity and ease.
Polly Taylor began the programme with a reflective rendition of Flowers from Hadestown, before joining Lauren Blower and Mel Rasool for When the Chips Are Down. Ella Bowis followed with Just In Case from the new musical Why Am I Still Single?, delivered with a strong sense of both musical and emotional control.
Pieces from Disney productions were also featured. Mel Rasool’s When Will My Life Begin? from Tangled added lightness and humour. The Little Mermaid was represented by Francesca Woolley’s Part of Your World and Bella Pringle’s For the First Time, each bringing a gentle interpretation of Ariel’s curiosity and hope.
Lauren Blower returned with Everything I Know from In the Heights, performed with a calm and sincere tone. Nyah Wooding gave a lively version of Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair from South Pacific, blending classic musical theatre with a more contemporary energy.
The evening also featured pieces from well-known shows including Les Misérables and Jekyll & Hyde, offering a combination of familiarity and vocal interest.
Choral performances added a collective dimension to the programme. The Consort Choir, made up of students from BGS and Bedford School, opened with You Will Be Found from Dear Evan Hansen, while the Genesis Choir closed the first half with a medley from Wicked, delivered with a sense of style and energy.
Each performer approached the stage with assurance and expression. From individual solos to group pieces, students shared their music with focus and care.
The evening offered an insight into the range of musical theatre interests among the student community and reflected the enjoyment and discipline that go into preparing live performance at BGS.
