By Mrs Howard (Year 6 Teacher)
As part of their PSHE curriculum, Year 6 explored the risks and responsibilities associated with alcohol and drugs in a dedicated workshop designed to support their understanding of healthy choices. The session provided pupils with key facts and definitions, helping them to learn about the laws and effects through real-life examples.
Our excellent health coach supported the pupils in defining exactly what drugs and alcohol are, using real-life situations and examples to explain the laws and associated risks. He also tackled common myths and encouraged discussion around peer pressure and the importance of making independent decisions. One particularly memorable activity involved trying on ‘beer goggles’ before attempting to find their keys, an engaging way to demonstrate impaired judgement. Year 6 fully immersed themselves in the session, asking thoughtful questions and sharing honest reflections. It was a fun and informative afternoon, with everyone learning something new.
Florence L said: "Did you know that if you smoke a lot of cigarettes and then you stop, you will have enough money in one year to buy a car!"
Roop J added :"The little stations were really fun, especially the station with the goggles and how you had to try and walk in a straight line."
