Junior School Mathematics

By Mrs Schofield (Head of Year 4)

This week, Year 4 enjoyed a lively outdoor maths lesson, taking on a scavenger hunt with a mathematical twist. The girls were set the challenge of converting mixed fractions to improper fractions and vice versa, with each correct answer revealing a hidden letter to collect along the way.

The activity encouraged problem-solving, collaboration and plenty of enthusiasm, as the group worked their way around the space, supporting one another to solve each fraction puzzle. Once all the letters had been uncovered, the final task was to rearrange them to reveal one of our learner profile attributes, being open-minded.

Combining fresh air, teamwork and number work, the session was a wonderful opportunity to bring maths to life outside the classroom and celebrate the value of shared learning.
