Senior School Mathematics

Mrs Beukes (Maths Teacher)

We are incredibly proud to share some exciting news about our recent trip to the Regional Finals of the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Team Mathematical Challenge!

Held at Woodbridge School on Monday 2nd March, this was our first time taking part in the regional finals, and what a debut it was. Competing against experienced schools, including past National Finalists, our team finished in the Top 10 overall, an outstanding achievement.

Our fantastic team consisted of four brilliant mathematicians: Kiara (Year 9), Aaliyah (Year 9), Lia  (Year 8) and Abhinaya (Year 8). All four earned their places after achieving top scores in earlier UKMT individual challenges.

The UKMT Team Mathematical Challenge brings together teams of four students to tackle creative and demanding problems across four fast-paced rounds, testing teamwork, strategy and problem-solving under pressure. Highlights from the day included a particularly strong performance in the Crossnumber round, where our team achieved one of their highest scores.

To place in the Top 10 at our very first regional finals, competing against seasoned schools and past National Finalists, is an incredible result. Even more impressively, the team outscored previous winners in several rounds.

Beyond the results, what stood out most was their teamwork, determination and enthusiasm. They supported one another brilliantly and represented the school with confidence and pride.

We are immensely proud of Abhinaya, Aaliyah, Lia and Kiara, and this feels like just the beginning of an exciting UKMT journey. Well done, team!
