On Friday 1st May, our pupils took part in an exciting and thought‑provoking Money Matters workshop, led by Mr Newton, one of our parents. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gained a valuable insight into how money works in the real world.
Throughout the session, the girls were challenged to earn and manage money through a range of activities. Some tasks were low‑risk, such as completing repeated physical exercises to mirror the idea of working steadily for an income. Others involved much higher risk, including games of darts and blackjack, where the potential rewards were high - but so was the chance of losing everything!
The workshop also introduced the concept of compound interest through a hands‑on game using building blocks. As towers grew taller, the girls had to decide whether to reinvest their winnings to try to earn even more or walk away with a smaller but guaranteed payout. These decisions sparked lots of discussion and reflection.
One particularly memorable moment came with an offer to double money through an investment in a “luxury hotel in the Bahamas,” promoted by the rather convincing Richy Rich. Unfortunately, several girls lost a significant amount of money, providing a powerful and memorable lesson about scams and too‑good‑to‑be‑true offers!
We would like to thank Mr Newton for once again giving up his time to deliver such an enjoyable, engaging, and informative workshop.
