Junior School

By Mrs Thomas (Year 5 Teacher)

On Friday 14th November, our Year 5 girls joined the Year 5 boys from Bedford School for a fun-filled and interactive Activity Day. The morning was packed with excitement, teamwork and challenge as pupils collaborated brilliantly across a wide range of activities.

From navigating their way through the library’s Dewey Decimal system, to taking part in an online Google Earth treasure hunt, and exploring new worlds in an immersive Virtual Reality session, every task encouraged curiosity, collaboration, and creative thinking.

Pupils also stretched their problem-solving skills through a series of rebus puzzles, anagrams, and lateral-thinking riddles, working together to communicate clearly, think logically, and persevere.

Meanwhile, the girls visiting Bedford School were set for the Great Extravaganza Challenge. Working in teams, they had to plan, design, and build a container that would protect an egg during a safe landing. With only one visit to the resource station allowed by Mr Affleck, teams had to negotiate cleverly for any additional materials, encouraging strategic thinking, cooperation, and careful planning. The challenge brought out plenty of imaginative ideas and lots of ‘egg’cellent thinking!

The morning here at BGS ended with a lively Solar System Kahoot! bringing out the competitive spirit and showcasing just how much knowledge the children have absorbed this term.

What a super morning of learning, exploration, and fun - a fantastic example of partnership, collaboration and creativity between our two schools!
