On Monday 3rd November, the U13A hockey team travelled to Heath Mount School for an afternoon of exciting competition. The conditions were mild, spirits were high, and the students represented BGS with enthusiasm and composure throughout.
The tournament began with a tightly contested match against Haileybury, which ended in a 0–0 draw. The team showed excellent organisation and teamwork, with strong defensive play and confident goalkeeping from Lottie Ayres ensuring a clean sheet. Up front, Lottie Tillison worked hard to create several promising chances.
Their second fixture, against Heath Mount B, was an impressive display of attacking hockey. The players moved the ball with pace and precision, linking up well through midfield and finishing their opportunities decisively to secure a 7–0 win. Izzy Morris demonstrated great skill and energy, helping drive the team’s momentum.
Next, the team faced Heath Mount A in what proved to be one of their best performances of the day. Against strong opposition, the players showed real grit and tactical awareness in an end-to-end contest. Although the result did not go their way, their teamwork and resilience stood out, with notable performances from Bella Poderoso and Daisy Rees.
The final match against Queenswood was another close game. Despite tired legs, the players continued to work tirelessly, showing real commitment in defence. A single goal proved the difference, but the team ended the day proud of their progress and effort across all four matches.
It was particularly pleasing to hear from two umpires who took the time to commend the team for their politeness and sportsmanship. Their conduct throughout the tournament was a credit to themselves and to BGS.
Player of the Tournament: Lottie Ayres was recognised for her calm leadership in goal, consistent communication, and excellent shot-stopping throughout the afternoon.
