By Miss Alarcon (Year 4 Teacher)

On Thursday, the Year 4 girls had a special visit from Dr Brown, mother of Bethany (4A) and a proud alumna of Dame Alice Harpur School, one of the heritage schools of BGS. Dr Brown, who has maintained deep bonds with the BGS community, returned to share her medical expertise and to teach our girls about the importance of medicine and drug safety.

During her engaging session, the girls learned to distinguish between substances that are drugs and those that may look like drugs but are not - such as gummy bears or M&Ms. Dr Brown also explained the harmful effects of alcohol and vaping, helping the girls understand how to make safe and healthy choices as they grow older.

The session was interactive and thought-provoking, with the girls showing great enthusiasm and curiosity throughout. Many were eager to share what they had learned afterwards. As Saanchi (4CS) reflected: “I learned that some drugs can look like gummies. I enjoyed learning how to recognise what is a drug. It was great to learn about this from a qualified doctor.”

We are deeply grateful to Dr Brown for inspiring our young learners and helping them understand how to stay safe and make responsible choices.
