By Miss Dawson (Head of Year 8)

On Tuesday 23rd September, Year 8 and their teachers attended a Wise Up ‘Hub Challenge’ teambuilding day at Cople Fields.

The day consisted of being split into smaller tutor group based groups to work on a range of thought provoking activities, ranging across physical, mental, spatial and more.  At the end of each task, the group then had to score themselves out of five, with the support of a teacher, for a range of different key skills, including planning, working together, and completing the task. Very quickly the students were able to recognise when they had worked well together, and when they could have been more organised or listened to each other better. These scores were then collated to give the three best working teams.

The Wise Up team also recognised three individuals (Bella P, Bella H and Roisin M) who they felt had shown the best leadership, team work and enthusiasm. We were incredibly lucky with the weather and it was fantastic to see everyone smiling and laughing, even when the tasks were particularly challenging!

Keira K (Year 8) reflected: “It was an amazing experience and really helped me get to know everyone in my form while we worked together to complete fun and challenging activities. I also think it helped me become better at communicating in large groups and also gave me some more confidence to share my ideas as everyone was open-minded and supportive towards each other.”

Heidi K (Year 8) added: “It is really fun getting put into groups of people you don’t know that well and getting to know them through team building activities.”

Aarna N (Year 8) said “I really enjoyed making more friendships in my class and learning more about them. It was also fun doing lots of different activities like the magic carpet and the bomb.”

Eleanor S (Year 8) commented: “The Wise Up day was a fun day filled with great activities with friends and classmates. It was a great experience to learn to trust, and have fun, with each other. The company was great and the staff were really nice.”
